<p dir="ltr" style="margin-right: 0px">Kính thưa quý đồng hương,<img style="width: 93px; height: 85px" alt="  " src=" www.ucchau.net/uploads/smartsection/imag...tem/law_symbol02.jpg " align="right" /><br /><br />Trong tinh thần đóng góp cho Cộng Đồng Người Việt ở Úc, khuyến khích sự học hỏi và đóng góp cho xã hội của tuổi trẻ Việt Nam tại Úc, học bổng Sam Nguyễn được thành lập.</p><p>Giá trị của học bổng năm 2007 là mười hai ngàn đô la ($12,000AUD).<br /><br />Học sinh trung học, sinh viên đại học, hay hậu đại học, có thể nộp đơn xin học bổng này. Có 4 tiêu chuẩn chính mà ứng viên cần hội đủ:<br /><br />1. Cần có đạo đức và tác phong tốt; <br />2. Cần có quốc tịch Úc hay một bằng chứng về tinh thần yêu nước Úc;<br />3. Cần có một hiểu biết căn bản về văn hóa và phong tục Việt Nam;<br />4. Cần có thành tích học vấn khá, nhưng không nhất thiết là phải cực giỏi. In some instances the Sam Nguyen Scholarship is offered to post graduate students. <br /><br /><strong>Where can I study?</strong></p><p dir="ltr" style="margin-right: 0px">Successful applicants may wish to study at any institutions of their choice.<br /><br /><strong>What course can I study?</strong></p><p dir="ltr" style="margin-right: 0px">The course to be undertaken under the scholarship will be proposed by the applicant. There is no mandatory requirement.<br />What is the value of the scholarship?<br />The full value and number of scholarships each year are determined by the Scholarship Board or the “Board”, after having regard to all relevant factors including the applicants' personal circumstances. <br />The Sam Nguyen Scholarship normally covers all text books, stationery and equipment with an allowance for travel expenses. <br />It is expected that that total amount to be granted for the year 2007 is $12,000.00.<br /><br />The method of payment of monies associated with the scholarship will be made in a manner determined by the Board. <br />It is expected that payment for the year 2007 will be made monthly to the successful applicant’s bank account.<br />Subject to the successful applicant’s financial status, he or she may wish to apply directly to the Board for extra money needed to finance their education.<br /><br />Before any monies are paid, scholarship holders must provide to the Board evidence that he or she has been accepted for admission to the approved course and where applicable to the relevant institution.<br /><br /><strong>What are the REQUIREMENTS? </strong></p><p dir="ltr" style="margin-right: 0px">Selection is made through interview and is to be based on personal qualities as well as academic ability. <br /><strong>(1)</strong> There is no additional examination specifically for the scholarship. <br />No applicant will be selected until after he or she has been interviewed by one or more of the board members and after the Board has made appropriate enquiries concerning the suitability of the applicant.<br /><strong>(2)</strong> The applicant’s financial background is NOT important. However, the Board may give preference to students, whose parents are laborers or factory workers.<br /><strong>(3)</strong> In selecting a scholar, the board may give preference to students intending to enter the Australian political field or law or other such activity considered beneficial to the Australian community. <br /><br /><strong><u>FOUR KEY CRITERIA</u></strong><br /><br /><strong>(i)</strong> The applicant must be of good character and conduct, well mannered and be fair and honourable in his or her dealings.<br /><strong>(ii)</strong> The applicant must have given some indications of citizenship, of loyalty and patriotism to Australia.<br /><strong>(iii)</strong> The applicant must demonstrate some basic understanding of the Vietnamese culture and customs.<br /><strong>(iv)</strong> The applicant must have reasonable academic ability but need not be in the highest academic grade. The Board must however be satisfied that the applicant has a strong aptitude to learn and is capable of successfully completing the course undertaken. <br /><u><strong>NB:</strong></u> The Board will be the sole judge of that outcome. That means, the Board's decision is final and there is NO appealing process.<br /><br /><strong>(4)</strong> Before confirming or announcing the award of a scholarship, the Board requires the scholar they have tentatively selected to give in writing an undertaking that if awarded a scholarship they will: <br /><strong>(i)</strong> Enter and complete the course approved for the scholarship; <br /><strong>(ii)</strong> They must pass (at least 50%) every subject they undertake;<br /><strong>(iii)</strong> They would maintain their good character and must not commit any criminal offence; <br />(iv) They must inform the Board in writing immediately of any changes of address or of any new circumstance significantly affecting the purpose and conditions of the scholarship. <br /><br /><strong>When do applications close?</strong><br /><br />Applications for the 2007 Sam Nguyen Scholarship will open on 9 August 2006 and close on 18 Feb 2007. <br /><br /><strong>How do I apply?</strong></p><p dir="ltr" style="margin-right: 0px">Send a covering letter addressing each selection criteria and enclose a brief RESUME to:<br /><br /><strong>The Scholarship Board</strong><br />357 Blunder Road<br />DURACK QLD 4077<br /><br />Phone: 07 3279 9760<br />Fax: 07 3279 9761 <br /><br /><strong>When will I be notified?</strong></p><p dir="ltr" style="margin-right: 0px">You will be notified if you have been short listed for an interview by late December. Interviews are conducted at Mr. Nguyen Chambers in DURACK between December and January. <br />Successful applicants will be notified of the details of their scholarship by mid March. <br /><br /><strong>Annual Report & Rules</strong><br /><br />By 31 October of each academic year of tenure of the scholarship, the scholar will send to the Board a written report on his or her academic progress during that year. The report should also include any other matters and activities considered relevant or of interest. <br /><br />The scholarship will be forfeited if in the opinion of the Board the scholarship holder:-<br /><strong>(1)</strong> is guilty of serious misconduct or behaves in any way which would have been taken into consideration against their selection as a Sam Nguyen Scholar. <br /><strong>(2)</strong> fails their examinations without good cause to the satisfaction of the Board.<br /><strong>(3)</strong> commits a breach of any rule made by the Board in pursuance of the power conferred upon them by Mr Sam Nguyen.<br /><strong>(4)</strong> resigns their scholarship<br />At its discretion, the rules of the scholarship may be changed by the Board from time to time as it thinks fit. </p>
